Just a smattering of finds from the most recent California trip to share – some creepy, some pretty and some that made me long for fall. It was chilly there and made we want to pull out sweaters and boots. Then I returned home to 100 degrees. Damn Phoenix in September!

Kooky Krafts
Shhhhh . . . it’s way better then first Fridays – you can actually look at the art. We stopped by Braggs Pie Factory to see Carolina Escobar‘s show – wow – lovely. It looked like a museum show – great job Carolina. So much work though where will she store it when the show come down we wondered? Then we walked the dark and scary streets along Grand Ave. (ha ha) up to Beatrice Moore’s new endeavor. The Kooky Krafts Shop. Wow what a stunner this place is. I wanted EVERYTHING in there! It is a channel explosion. So Yummy I think my mouth was open the whole time I was in there. The three year old short one thought it was a princess fantasy land. Next weekend is the Grand Avenue Festival – check her new shop out then.

mural of words and images
I created a paneled mural of words and images for the Phoenix Office of Arts and Cultures’ artSpace program. This mural was requested to provide a small bite of the activities that the POAC artSpace program offers. It will live at the Arizona Department of Education office as they are the funders of the artSpace program. POAC artSpace provides kids access to the Arts in an after-school setting. I worked with a gardening and growing theme using trees, flowers, butterflies, a wheelbarrow and seed packets. The lines of the tree trunk and branches as well as the flower stems are made by using words from poetry written by students participating in the artSpace programs. The leaves and butterflies are created out of photos of kids in the program and images of their artwork.
