Music, Fashion and Art – Los Angeles Style

This past weekend I headed out to L.A. with friends. We started in Santa Ana (The OC!) to see an exhibition by Matt Moore called Cumulus at the Grand Central Art Center.

Matt was artist in residence and created a piece marking the L.A .Aqueduct’s 100th anniversary. He used decommissioned scavenging planks and films of clouds and growing fields which were projected on the planks perfecting using a system called Mad Mapper.  The piece was amazing. Head out to Santa Ana before January 2014 to see it.

On Saturday we went to the The folk fest on the Santa Monica Pier. Music, Beer from Sierra Nevada, Sun and Sand – that’s a yes! The show closed with Neko Case – a personal favorite!

On Sunday during the day we shopped Melrose Place in West Hollywood and A visit to the New BookMarc and Kate Spade Saturday were the highlights!

CHA ooo la la

First day at Super Crafts Show / Craft and Hobby Association Convention (CHA) was a whirlwind of activity. We work at the Provo Craft booth all day chatting with conference attendees about the YUDU.

Also, some props out to other friends we made fun projects with during breaks. Craftster folk making buttons, Plaid folks busting out the Mod Podge, cute stuff at taylored expressions and the Zip Dry glue peeps. Oh yes and my girl Sarah from S-Spencer Studios and finally a whoot out for Scrapbook Royalty who does so much good charity work.

We were welcomed with a fun balloon lounge. We walked around for a bit before settling into to screen posters for attendees. I have so much more to blog about but since it’s sprinkling we need to run over to the Convention Center. More soon . . .

Big storm of 2010 . . . so far

Driving from Phoenix to CA through the crazy storm that took over the west. Grateful that we weren’t on a plane because so many people got stuck in airports around the west and were late getting to Anaheim for the Super Crafts Show. The rain has let up which makes walking from the hotel to the convention center much more comfortable but it is still cold. Brrrr  – Here are some pics from the drive.

Seals on the Bluff

Having just returned from CA I had to post about the amazing Elephant Seals we saw at the ocean near Hearst Castle outside of Cambria, CA. The seals return to this same beach every year. The females arrive in January to birth their calves. We saw many, many mother nursing their babes. The parents are brown and the new pups are all black. Many of the males were bloody from their fighting because apparently as soon as the babes are born the males are ready to hit it again so they fight over the MILF’s. And these males can weigh up to 2 tons – impressive! The hand out shared that the action really heats up around Valentine’s Day – when the real mating season begins. We all really enjoyed seeing the moms curled up with their pups. All the seals look dead on the beach – but they were just lounging.

They look so gentle

Cali Finds

Just a smattering of finds from the most recent California trip to share – some creepy, some pretty and some that made me long for fall. It was chilly there and made we want to pull out sweaters and boots. Then I returned home to 100 degrees. Damn Phoenix in September!

These bubble gum looking creatures were washed up all over the beach in Summerland, CA. The short one couldn't stop touching them.

Trailer Rally at Pismo Beach

While in CA last week we went to the West Coast Pismo Beach Vintage Travel Trailer Rally. Let me just say I went along reluctantly just to be a team player. Once I got there though I had so much fun and I loved seeing all of the vintage trailers and the way people had decorated them and the cool crafted items they included. Here are a ton of pictures from this day. I can’t wait until our travel trailer is done now!
