Seeing the Sea Life

I had the opportunity to visit the new Sea Life Aquarium at the Arizona Mills Mall recently. Prior to going I was confused and curious why an aquarium in the middle of the desert? After going on a ferociously hot day I totally got it – no more judgement. It felt cool the whole time I was inside this really well designed space. The design makes you feel as though you are underwater and sometimes you actually are in when your under the water tunnels. There are moments that the ceiling is covered in what looks like old boards so you feel like you are under a ship. All of the graphics on the walls were great. The short one loved it all but was most excited by all of the interactive elements. She got to pet a star fish, search for fossils and dance on a moving floor that looked like rippling water. The ending playground was a huge hit too. It is really spendy for a family but to go as part of a party as we did is a better way to do it. So get your friends together and go as a group.

10 years = Jewelry heaven and some pie

This past weekend the tall one and I celebrated our ten year anniversary. We headed to Flagstaff for the weekend, the kids stayed with Grandma and Grandpa! We didn’t do much – just hung out because it was cold and windy. Only 47 degrees for a high – brrrr. We did have a few fun meals including a stop at Rock Springs for a famous slice of pie. We shared the rhubarb, which it turns out I discovered the tall one doesn’t love. He didn’t share that until after I ordered but he wanted me to have the pie of my choice – so thanks hubby – I loved it! Mmmmmm . . . I am not even a pie eater but when in Rock Springs . . .

For my ten year gifty the tall one presented an unbelievable vintage wall unit for all of my jewelry! That is right an entire wall in our bedroom is now covered with this amazing vintage dentistry cabinet! It is so fabulous these pictures do not even offer it justice. This girl does love her accessories!

Calling all Tweens: WIYS WRUD?

I am teaching a workshop once again this summer in the city of Glendale, AZ at the lovely fruit packing shed.

Sahuaro Ranch Park - Glendale AZ

The workshop is called: WIYS WAYD? (What is Your Story? What Are You Doing?)  It will take place from Monday June 28 through Thursday July 1. There are two sessions daily.  The morning session  is 9 a.m.- noon and then the workshop repeats from 1-4 p.m. So two options to join the fun! Ages 10-13 will get their creative juices flowing in this class. We kick it off with a brainstorming session on characters. Each participant will dream up a cast of characters, then decide what they look like, what they like to do and what adventure they will have in the story. Days two and three will be spent refining the story and illustrating the characters and the background on each page. During the final day, participants will put it all together into a bound book that they will share. Class takes place in the Main Room of the Fruit Packing Shed at Sahuaro Ranch, 9802 N. 59th Ave. The workshops, sponsored by the Glendale Library and Arts Department

To register online, go to www.glendaleaz.com/ParksandRecreation and click on “Classes and Programs.” There is a $20 non-refundable application fee per workshop and student. For more information, call 623-930-3557.
