Changing STEM into STEAM

We love a good Ted Talk video, and here’s a great one to watch about the power of STEAM in education today. The two guys in this video had ordinary jobs in the STEM industry but found themselves getting burned out. By mixing it up a little and adding some STEAM to their work, they found the key to innovation and changing their lives. If you can relate their story we definitely recommend taking a look at their Ted Talk.

At Laboratory5 Inc. We bring together all elements of STEAM and tie them up into a package to promote the work each individual is doing in their fields to celebrate this work. We produce experiences so that those unfamiliar with the glorious, quirky, nerdy, geeky qualities of all areas of STEAM can be explored as an adventure to explain these fields.

Through powerful storytelling these pieces bring to life the reality of todays vaccines. They’ve commissioned the work of 36 artists who have created a variety of beautiful videos, sculptures and pictures that speak out on the history of vaccination the importance it holds today.

The sculpture at the top of the page called Vaccines As Love Serum, was created by famous artist Mauro Perucchetti with the message of keeping children healthy. On the website there are some great videos where the artists talk about their art and the messages they are sharing.

STEAM Curriculum

After we offered a talk on how to integrate STEAM into curriculum at a garden at the APGA Conference HERE my colleagues and I at the Desert Botanical Garden were ready to take the next step. We had been beta testing the STEAM curriculum we developed focusing on biomimicry. We partnered with The Art Resource Center to develop post tour kits to take back to the classroom to further develop knowledge and skills about STEAM.
