YUDU fun with my gal pals

What fun we gals had playing with the YUDU screen printer. It was a little slow going because my pregnancy (at the time) brain was a bit forgetful of the rules. Such as don’t peel the plastic sheet off of the emulsion before you burn the screen. I also had to have help from the crowd to remember where the plates went when burning and when printing. I also think I want to get a softer squeegee as the hard one that comes with the system is a bit tough to pull. I am going to do a great deal of YUDUing this fall as I prepare for our annual open studio event on December 12. I can’t wait to print up a ton of onesies. If you’re having a baby or know someone who is – you’ll have to check them out. During our night of gal pal fun we printed onesies, baby bibs, greeting cards, tee-shirts and Sarah even printed an apron. Rosie’s project really turned out the best. She used her Cricut machine to cut out a couple of ducks and Sarah helped her cut into the big one and place the smaller one inside to create a nesting image. She cut them out of black card stock and her design really worked well. Those of us who did drawings directly on the transparency really need to use thicker Sharpies next time as we lost some of our lines.  We also audio recorded our chatter and once this is edited I will post the pod-cast I am making with the help of my friend Adam. More YUDU pics to come as I play more throughout the coming weeks.

You whoo – look at my YUDU

So I  experimented a bit tonight. No not in that way – or that way either! I grabbed all of my YUDU goodies and got to it.  First, I did a freehand drawing, I decided for this first go I would do a simple one color line drawing. Next I transferred it on to a transparency, then burned my screen and was then ready to start printing. I have to admit that I was a bit impatient waiting for the screen to dry – 20 minutes is a long time to sit by knowing the screen is freshly burned and ready to go but for some water that needs to dry off.  I wished the fan was hopped up on some speed and I could have a three minute dry time instead. But I followed the rules this first time and left it in the dryer for the full time. I looked over all of my ink choices to pass the time and decided on the fabulous gun metal bronze (grey really) – any way I really like that color. It is metallic and shiny without being too teenage pop-ish!  What fun! Looking forward to more in the next few days. I have to now work on two color and registration which seems a bit scary to me.  So here are some snaps of my process and out-come from tonight’s experiment. Thank you to Provo Craft and Mike for giving me a YUDU for free to experiment with. I am super excited to play!

Goody package at the front door

Just returned from a va-ca trip to CA.  Ahhh . . . I was actually chilly – but more on that later. When we returned to the AZ casa last night I had a goody awaiting me on my door step. My new YUDU!   Thank you ProvoCraft for sending it to me to play with. I unpacked it and am so excited. The first thing I noticed was how totally light weight it is for such a huge machine – even a pregnant girl can lift it! I moved it into the studio and will get to playing with it this weekend. Once the laundry is done and the cooler is cleaned out.

Here is a shot of it in the studio – did I mention how excited I am?

Note – I am going to have a AZ creative get together in July if you want to join in the YUDU  fun – let me know.

Thank you Mike at ProvCraft
